Marston House Inventory
We always buy throughout the winter months in France, Italy and sometimes England. We look for antique homespun textiles and furnishings from the 18th and 19th century that appeal to our design esthetic. The items that appeal must be simple, useful and full of "soul".
We love looking for and working with authenticity. The more an item has been used and repaired the more we tend to love it. Generally speaking the textiles and items we fall in love with were never meant to be bought or sold. They were made for a specific use, a certain place, and most likely for a particular person. This is the "soul" of the piece and we find that this energy, this" signature", is as important as each piece.
We buy from a handful of trusted and knowledgeable dealers. We have often noted that the best "buys" are from the best dealers. Most often antique dealing is their "life work" as it is ours. Often we will go days or even months without finding or buying a single antique. It is an intuitive business for us and we are never able to answer the question of "What are you looking for?" We honestly never know, but when we find it we purchase it in a blink, there is no indecision.
Buying for us is very personal, as though we are building a private collection, when in fact it is all inventory for The Marston House.
If you are looking for something in particular or see something here or on instagram that grabs you, don't hesitate to call or email us to inquire.
