18th French Resist Quilt

1,800.00

France | c. 1800

Indigo resist quilt, good condition with some expertly mended repairs. This method of creating the fine detail requires hand painting the natural linen fabric with wax, dying the fabric with indigo then removing the wax. These quilts are rare and difficult to find. This one, from a collection in southern France, with the pomegranate in an urn design, represents “hospitality” much like the pineapple represents in America and is the most desirable . This piece has the original homespun backing.

Measures 78” x 58”
