France | c. 1800

Indigo resist quilt, good condition with wear. Perfect for the end of the bed. The method of creating this finely detailed design requires hand painting the natural linen fabric with wax, dying the fabric with indigo then removing the wax. These quilts are rare and difficult to find. This one, from a collection in southern France, with the pomegranate design represents “hospitality” much like the pineapple represents in America and is the most desirable . This piece has the same resist textile with a different resist pattern on the reverse, this is rare.

Measures 98” x 38”
