Bike & car rentals at The Tidewater If you do need to drive on, a little more planning is required, so be sure to ask about line reservations and drive-on planning when calling the ferry office. Go for swim in one of the island's rock quarries! One of our favorite's is Booth Quarry Pond, just about 1.5 miles up the road from our shop. Or if salt water is what you prefer, Geary's Beach is a perfect little cove to go for a float.
Vinalhaven Land Trust stewards eleven preserves on the island with over 15 miles of diverse hiking trails to the public. We recommend the Tip Toe trail for dynamic views of the Fox Islands, and the Lane's Island Preserve for its' Wyeth-esque meadows and craggy coastal windswept trails.

These are some of our favorites restaurants, two of which are on North Haven, the next island over, which is a 5 min water taxi ride away across the Fox Island Thoroughfare. Water Taxi's are every hour, on the hour, serviced from Brown's Boatyard. You must call ahead to let them know you want a ride. Nebo Lodge will send a boat for you if you call ahead, and Salt you can casually walk down the street to on Vinalhaven. The Nightingale just opened this summer and they are a welcome addition to the island, they are also our next door neighbors!
Last minute lodging can be tricky to find as people tend to book in advance and stay for a while, we can't blame them. Here are some of our recommendations of where to start your search. You can also take a look at the Vinalhaven Chamber of Commerce site for more lodging tips
